Purpose Mylar blankets and insulation of all sizes were originally used to protect Skylab from overheating. As our piece is only 2 5/8" X 4" it was probably used to protect or insulate a small piece of equipment.

Purpose Ballpoint pens are specifically designed with space missions in mind: old fashioned rely on gravity for ink flow. The ink cartridge allows the pen to be used in microgravity, and the rubber band most likely kept the pen from floating away.

Description 18.5" X 15.25" mahogany framed, red and black matted, set of mounted pins. Frame has knicks and scratches on all four sides. On back: item is professionally framed with glued facing paper and wall hardware. Eight tears are present. The bottom, left corner is folded up. One 1.5" X 2.75" red tag is wired to the hanging hardware, "V# 3053-002, Line item 6." One 2.5" X 1" green label and one 4" X 2" white label, are affixed to the bag. For label information see photograph. Item is in good condition.

Description 4" X 6" walnut plaque with hard plastic tag, "I SAW THE MOON LAUNCH, JULY 16, 1969, KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA." Silver and black tone medallion lower down has etching of Apollo rocket on launch pad, "NASA SATURN V APOLLO 11. Item is in very good condition.

Purpose This sort of plastic seal has a rubbery lip to keep the seal air tight, though external vessel seals must be much stronger to resist vacuum.

Description 4.5" X 3" X 2" hard clear plastic device with shaving head, cover, internal gears with bleck and chrome wingnut on back. Imprint in plastic, "Brevete S.G.D.G., Made in Monaco." Black vinyl case with metal zipper and torn seam included. Item is in very good condition.

Provenance Donated to the library by Orland Park resident, John R. Meister along with hard-copy internet history of the artifact. We have no evidence that the item was flown.
Purpose Although shaving systems were put into use during the Gemini mission they went relatively unused until the Apollo 10 mission. Our shaver model came into use around the Apollo 14 mission but there is no information concerning the use by NASA of our actual artifact.
