Description Bolt of fabric, approx. ten yards, Goldenrod color, 48" wide. Fabric is used to line TMG garments and is referred to as "Bladder Fabric". Item is in superior condition.

Purpose Nylon urethane coated fabric is used as a layer in spacesuits. There are a total of twelve layers, the Nylon Urethane fabric is used in the Pressure Bladder Layer. This layer holds the correct pressure for the body, and holds oxygen. This fabric can be seen in NASA Special Collection items: Lower Torso Assembly, boot sizing insert and as a roll of fabric.

Description 4' x 6' red, white and blue nylon flag. Red lettering says, Manned Flight Awareness NASA. Two brass grommets on left edge. Blue lettering indicates manufacturer, Nyl-Glo, 100 Nylon Bunting, ABININ Since 1847, USA. Item is in good condition.

Purpose Space shuttles each have a flag made with the name of the shuttle on it. Flags are then raised during shuttle launch. Shuttle Orbiter Flags were created by the Manned Flight Awareness office (also known as The Space Flight Awareness office) at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The Discovery orbiter is the third orbiter to come from the Kennedy Space Center. Discovery flew 39 times from 1984-2011 and had a variety of missions throughout the years, included satellite delivery, and carrying the Hubble Telescope to space.

Description Five 12" X 9" orange gabardine pieces. "Quick Don Mask Assembly", P/N SED33104528-303" printed on the front. Nothing printed on the back. Items seem to be unsewn pieces of a greater piece. All items included are in very good condition.

Purpose A quick don mask is a type of oxygen mask that can be put on using just one arm and in only five seconds. Pilots wear oxygen masks in unpressurized aircrafts to supplement oxygen. The item here is a label for this type of mask.

Purpose Most spacesuits have many patches sewn in representing different missions and countries. NASA attaches an American flag patch to most suits like the one seen here. EMU stands for Extravehicular Mobility Unit and is the type of suit this patch was made for and represents. Information regarding this patch was sparse. Description 5.25" X 4.25" fabric and plastic, multi-colored patch. Wording on the front of patch, "SPACE SHUTTLE PROGRAM, 1981-2010." Back of patch has numbers, "163486, 6/10 30." Included with patch is an 8.5" X 11" black and white explanation sheet in a plastic sheet protector. Patch and other included items are in pristine condition.

Provenance Sent from Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. Currently held at the Orland Park Public Library NASA Special Collection. Part of order #29.

Purpose As referenced on the included sheet, "The Space Shuttle Program was intended to complete in 2010. Due to needed flights to complete the International Space Station, the Program was extended into 2011 to accommodate two additional flights. The patch you are receiving was obviously developed in 2010 before the decision to extend into 2011. See the final Space Shuttle Program patch with the correct dates to the left." (on the included sheet)

Description 4" X 2" blue and silver crew patch. This patch was issued to Jim Halsell, James d. Halsell. The stitching includes Halsell's name along with a crest, wings and a star design. Item has some use but is in good condition.

Purpose The mission patch seen here would have been worn by Jim Halsell (full name, James Donald Halsell, Jr.). Jim is a retired colonel from the United States Air Force and former NASA astronaut. Jim has spent over 1250 hours in space and has piloted and commanded five flights to space; STS-74, STS-65, STS-101, STS-83, and STS-94. He has also served as NASA Director of Operations at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City Russia.
