Purpose Laptops are used by astronauts on space flights to aid them in a variety of tasks as a companion to the main computer systems of the shuttle. Some of the operations include emailing, landing simulations, making phone calls to friends, and rendezvous assistance. Laptops are much faster than the main computer systems onboard, but are much less reliable; therefore, laptops aid the main computers but do not replace them.
