Description Blue and silver metal box, 4" X 2.5" with 3-thirteen pin receptacles one three separate sides. Black 10" cord protruding from one end of the box with a eleven pin plug on the end of the cord. White label with "USA, United Space Alliance, Title: Multiple Headset Adapter Assy, Part No.: 85-014577-01, 03004, NAS9-20000, Space Flight Operations Contract. Item is in very good condition.

Purpose Each crew member wears a helmet and headset during the launch and reentry of the spacecraft. The headset lessens severe noise, and aids in communications between astronauts, as well as on ground flight controllers. A multiple headset adapter is used as its three outlets allow up to three crew members to share one available outlet, and all three individuals' microphones will be keyed in on communications.

Description 1.5" X 1" X 5.25" Aluminum compartment, long rectangular shape. Has battery anode and cathode drawings on side. Has caution note on one side, and has Battery Unit P/N SDD39119155-001, S/N 1004. Last side has cutout with view of wires. Item is in good condition.

Purpose Space Shuttles have cameras mounted at all angles on external tanks and solid rocket boosters. They monitor and assess other Shuttle systems in use and provide a live video feed that can be viewed by scientists at home. Monitoring the performance of systems insures the astronauts are safe and shuttles work at peak performance. Our artifact is an External Tank or ET Camera.

Purpose Cameras are used by the flight crew to document activities and operations inside and outside the orbiter. The 35mm camera is a motorized, battery-operated Nikon camera with reflex viewing; through-the-lens coupled light metering and automatic film advancement. The camera has the standard manual operation and three automatic (electrically controlled) modes- single exposure, continuous and time.

Description 16" long Canon video camera, XL-1 complete with viewfinder, red and white Canon strap, black hand strap, minus battery pack. Camera has bayonet mount for lens. Corresponding lens; 0069 and 0070 are mountable to this camcorder. Camera has three large identifying stickers on the right side of piece. Canon maroon shoulder strap included. Item is in very good condition.

Purpose Laptops are used by astronauts on space flights to aid them in a variety of tasks as a companion to the main computer systems of the shuttle. Some of the operations include emailing, landing simulations, making phone calls to friends, and rendezvous assistance. Laptops are much faster than the main computer systems onboard, but are much less reliable; therefore, laptops aid the main computers but do not replace them.
