Purpose Crew members aboard a space shuttle select their clothing far in advance before they launch and go to space. They are given a limited supply of clothes which are worn once and after a period of 3-10 days, depending on the garment and activity, disposed of in a bag. The thermal bottoms seen here would have been worn depending on the preference of the crew member and whether article was suitable for her job.

Brief, LTA, TMG Assembly

Description 22" x 26" white brief assembly. Interior is tan material with a grid design and black lining visible at seams. Four overlapping pieces of wide fabric create the curve at the seat. There is a 3" x 8" pocket at the hip of the right leg. Velcro strips line both leg holes inside and out to secure to upper leg pieces. The was has three zippers arranged around the inside, and two reinforced 2.5" holes, front right and front left, through which straps could be secured. Sewn tag at back reads: ITEM LTA, TMG, BRIEF ASSY. PART NO. 0104-82589-19 SERIAL NO. 148 SIZE 02 15" CODE ID 74897 MFG 3/84 ILC-DOVER Item is in very good condition.

Purpose The brief assembly is a part of the Extravehicular Mobility Unit or EMU, more commonly known as a space suit. It covers the waist and upper thighs of the astronaut. Spacesuits used to be custom fitted for each astronaut, but today they are adjustable to multiple astronauts’ sizes. The piece shown here is one part of many layers needed to protect astronauts from the dangers of space.

Description 7.25" X 5.25" white fabric (similar to Apollo pants fabric) strip of fabric sewn to make tube to carry items. 2 sets of heavy duty snaps are on each side. 1 gross grain ribbon hangs off the other end with a snap head. Printed words include: M553 CUP ASSY A6 RETURN. Item is in very good condition.

Purpose This pouch may have been used for a sphere forming experiment. M553 and references to this number all arrive at documents referring to this experiment. No reference to a cup assembly is found. This item has some connection to alloys and microgravity.

Purpose Flight suits come in many colors and are used for many different tasks. The khaki flight suit seen here would have most likely been made for a United Space Alliance suit technician. Suit technician’s work on Advanced Crew Escape Suits, astronauts wear these suits for the launch and re-entry of the space shuttle. They take care of the escape suits including maintenance and repair.

Front patch; Shuttle Crew Escape Team Member, red, orange border with picture of astronaut parachuting, arm patches; American flag on left, oval Shuttle Crew Escape Team, Entry Home, Launch, Orbit on right, back; smaller STS patch and large USA; United Space Alliance. 8 pieces of khaki Velcro sewn too. Pink plastic bag included. Item is in good condition.

Purpose The flight suit seen hear would have been worn by a United Space Alliance suit technician. Suit technician’s work on Advanced Crew Escape Suits, astronauts wear these suits for the launch and re-entry of the space shuttle. They take care of the escape suits including maintenance and repair. The STS patch stands for Space Transportation System. When suits are in use they have a number next to the STS patch which stands for the mission the crew member is working on.

Description 12" X 5.5" green rubber glove lining. Black notations along with +'s and O's are written on the glove. It has a yellow border with holes. Inside is a white fabric liner sewn at the wrist. Item is in very good condition.

Description 11" X 5.75" (28cm X 14.5cm) white and brown glove with blue metal fasteners. one string is attached to each blue fastener for a total of 10. Rubberized ring at wrist, three chrome fasteners closer to wrist. Label states: ITEM RESTRAINT ASSEMBLY GLOVE 4000, PART NO. 0106-88936-03, SERIAL NO. 088, SIZE 04(ZD), CODE ID 74897, MFG 6/90, ILC DOVER. Velcro on the palm and back of glove. Item is used but in good condition.

Purpose The Glove Restraint Assembly is one part of a multi-layer glove. It is the second layer inside of the TMG glove. The restraint layer carries all the pressure and weight of “man-induced loads.” The TMG layer protects against temperature changes and guards against high velocity micrometeoroids.

CLASS III written in red. Another label is attached to the palm side of glove. Weather and hard to read. Very used and weathered. Glove is in above average condition.
