Description 9.312" X 7.375" Khaki colored mitten with four pieces of white Velcro and an "L" sewn on. Small black loop sewn into the bottom of mitten. Flap across fingers has label inside. Has 2 plastic bags; one with 2 red and white labels, one with yellow tape and buff inventory tag hang from it. Item is in very good condition.

Purpose Astronauts wear many layers of gloves to perform a variety of tasks. Thermal mittens add extra protection in extreme temperature environments.

Purpose Overgloves are a protective layer worn over spacesuit gloves to protect the spacesuit glove from being torn and frayed.

Description Army green gabardine cargo pant, size 38 X 30, Eddie Bauer. Pant legs zip off. Pants have side knee pockets, 2 back flap pockets and 2 front side pockets. pants have a button and zipper closure in the front. Plastic bag with one sticker included. Item is in very good condition.

They are given a limited supply of clothes which are worn once and after a period of 3-10 days, depending on the garment and activity, disposed of in a bag. The pants seen here would have been worn depending on the liking of the crew member and whether his job suited this article of clothing.

Description 10.25" X 7" pockets (2) blue gabardine with four outside pouches on each with Velcro closures. Three strips of Velcro are sewn to the back of each. Ziplock bag included. Items are in good condition.

Purpose Space crews are provided with removable pockets for their shorts and pants to store tools in. Living in a zero gravity environment means that objects will float away if not tethered down or stored away.

Pouches, Hair Restraint Assy, Misc.

Description Two restraints were received and are packaged in the box together. Each is 4.75" X 4.75", folded up. Beige canvas outer and yellow bladder fabric lining with elastic pieces to hold hair. Velcro on all four flaps and on canvas back. Items in very good condition.

Was missing in original shipment. LBJ found the item in September 2013 and made arrangements to send. Of Note: We hold the pattern for this item too.

Purpose Many personal hygiene products are given to space shuttle crew members upon request. For hair products they are given brushes and combs, dry shampoo and hair barrettes/bands. These are stored in a pouch. Restraints are used to hold objects so they do not float away in zero gravity.

Shirt, Polo, W/STS-6 Mission Patch

Description Short sleeved, Navy blue knit shirt with collar and pocket. Five beige buttons; four on placket and one on pocket. Two patches are located on the right front of shirt; one is white with red NASA lettering, one is hexagonal with Challenger and STS-6 in red, Space Shuttle in the center, four astronauts names around the sides; Weitz, Bobko, Musgrave, Peterson. Shirt has a label on the inside with a P written in. Shirt is a size Medium. Includes a clear plastic bag with one sticker; 80740203630120, Shirt, Polo w/STS-6 Mission Patch, 1 ea. Item is in superior condition.

Provenance Shipped from LBJ Space Center. Currently held in the Orland Park Public Library NASA Special Collection. Item was flown in STS-6. Was Astronaut Peterson's shirt. Item is in good condition. Part of order # 4.

Purpose The shirt seen here belonged to astronaut Donald H. Peterson. Peterson served as a NASA astronaut from 1969-1984. The patch shown was for the STS-6 mission. STS-6 launched on the spacecraft Challenger. Peterson’s role included engineering support, machine interface and safety assessment. STS-6 conducted many experiments in materials processing, recorded lightning activities, deployed the first Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS-A), and activated three Getaway Specials
