Purpose To ensure astronauts get correctly fitted boots, sizing inserts are used. Spacesuits have to be a perfect fit for each astronaut. Rather than creating entirely new suits for each astronaut separate components are made and then attached together based on the crew member’s size.

Description Black NASA cap with white and red embroidery. Orange jumpsuit with four NASA patches, front zipper, black vinyl collar, elastic waist, adult size small. Items are in in outstanding condition.

Provenance Kelly A. Cuci purchased suit and cap from Adler Planetarium's gift shop to round out the first NASA display in June of 2011. Jumpsuit and cap manufactured by Aeromax Inc.

Purpose This is a replica jumpsuit and cap purchased at Adler Planetarium in 2011.
Astronauts wear orange jumpsuits during flight takeoff and reentry. The jumpsuits protect astronauts from increased cabin pressure and insulate them from extreme temperature changes. This type of suit is used for an emergency, the bright color makes it easy for search and rescue teams to find crew members. These suits are also equipped with survival gear.

Description 9" X 7" blue gabardine bag with white labels; BREATHING KIT ASSEMBLY, P/N:SED46115596-301, S/N: 1002, MISSION SPECIALIST 3, SED46113194-701. Two pieces of white Velcro are sewn to the bag. Items in bag: 4.5" X 4" bag of 2" diameter green cloths, 7" coil of clear tubing, 4.5" X 3" blue and silver tone mouth apparatus, and 2 nose plugs; one blue 2.5" plastic and one 3.25" silver tone metal. Item is in good condition.

Purpose Breathing kits are often used for lung volume measurement and as part of experiments gauging pulmonary function. Our artifact includes several separate pieces that are included in breathing kits and is similar to those used on missions from 2001 - 2003.

Description Five 12" X 9" orange gabardine pieces. "Quick Don Mask Assembly", P/N SED33104528-303" printed on the front. Nothing printed on the back. Items seem to be unsewn pieces of a greater piece. All items included are in very good condition.

Purpose A quick don mask is a type of oxygen mask that can be put on using just one arm and in only five seconds. Pilots wear oxygen masks in unpressurized aircrafts to supplement oxygen. The item here is a label for this type of mask.

Black vinyl lens pouch with yellow tape with identification number written on side, black draw string. Pouch part number; XL SC-3 imprinted on the bottom of pouch. Pouch measures 10' tall. Item is in very good condition.
