Torso, Lower Assembly

Description 40" long yellow and white fabric pants with four metal grips attached to four gross-grain straps. Yellow fabric is urethane coated bladder fabric, white fabric is nylon with some TMG patches. Item has been patched on the inside yellow fabric. Writing on the inside; LTA 1042. Other writing not readable. Item is in above average condition.

Purpose The lower torso assembly is part of the Extravehicular mobility unit or EMU, which is known as a space suit, and is located below the waist. The Lower Torso Assembly is removable and adjustable to fit multiple astronauts’ sizes. The piece shown here is one part of many layers within the torso unit. It is the bladder layer made of urethane-coated nylon. This layer keeps the correct pressure for the body and holds oxygen for breathing.

Description White fabric of unknown origin. Fabric looks synthetic but the hand of the fabric suggests there is an element of metal woven in. Long pants with zippers located at the waist and ankles. 4 elastic bands run around the waist. 5 snaps are on the front as well as an adjustable belt with 2 "D" rings. A green tag is wired to pants with an article number of 2127 but the number to reference will be 2806 as written on the sewn tag at waistline. Item is in superior condition.

Purpose Garment made of Teflon coated beta cloth and is fire resistant. Material makes it easy to put on and remove garment in zero gravity environment. These trousers were manufactured in January of 1969 to be used in an Apollo mission. Although it is unclear what specific mission these trousers were made for they were most likely for Apollo missions 9 or 10.
