Description 2 - white bags measuring 12" X 11.5" attached by a 1" woven white piece of strapping with black latch. One bag reads EMPTY and the other reads FILLED, DSO 622 MS1. There are 5 brown stains on the Empty bag. All items included are in good condition.

Purpose Artifacts like ours were used to collect breath samples on the International Space Station, on STS-51 and MIR-18/STS-71 to measure gastro-intestinal systems. These tests included measuring breath , urine and saliva samples. Research found that of the breath sample bags used, “Nine of the inflight breath sample bags did not contain sufficient breath samples for analysis. It was discovered that the port of the bags was not sealed when received by the investigator. However, this loss of samples did not impact analysis results.”

Category Shuttle Hardware

Description 2.25" X 54" black nylon strap. Item has one white label, "PACIFIC SCIENTIFIC 45402, LAP BELT ME 621-0077-0009, BWSTSD CONTROL NO., SERIAL NO. 365, PART NO. 1111354-03, DATE OF MFG APR 1993." The end with the label has one triangular black metal piece attached and one black adjustment apparatus. On the opposite end is one black metal piece with a tab and one elastic band to hold end in place. 10" X 10.5" clear plastic zip-bag. One 4" X 2" white label is located at the top, right of bag. Label includes identifying information, see photo. One 2.625" X 1" green label is located below the white label. Bag has numerous wrinkles. One hole and some marker writing is located on the opposite side. Belt is in good condition. Bag is in fair condition.

Purpose As in any other vehicle, Shuttle lap and seat belts are used to restrain and hold astronauts in their seats.

Description 11" X 10" blue binder with pictures. Each picture is in a clear page protector. There are 22 pictures within the binder, each individual picture measures 8" X 10". All contained items are in very good condition.

Description 2.63" X 4" gold Mylar and Velcro rectangle. Has code printed on one side - 49671-zz97888-503, S/N 016, PL REV, and white stickers H,B. some wear shows on the corners. Item is in good condition.

Purpose Mylar blankets and insulation of all sizes were originally used to protect Skylab from overheating. As our piece is only 2 5/8" X 4" it was probably used to protect or insulate a small piece of equipment.

Description 31" X 31" X 31" sealed, triangle Mylar blanket material. Has three tags inside with indicator information. Red letters stamped on side say, SCRAP. Item remains sealed. Cellophane wrapper is in fair condition. Item looks to be unused and in very good condition.
