Description 14.75" 11.50" The Times Union. Front: Title of article is "ON THE MOON!" The page is fading and has yellowed since being printed. The article begins with "SPACE CENTER, Houston (AP) - Man landed on the moon at 4:18 p.m. EDT, Sunday, July 20, 1969." (For more on article see picture or contact Outreach Staff) Toward the middle and bottom right there are three pictures of an artist's conception of the moon landing, Astronaut Edwin E. Aldrin Jr. and Astronaut Neil A. Armstrong. Toward the bottom there is a piece ripped off of the right side of the newspaper. There is periodic tattering along the edges. The very bottom of the page has 7 holes punched in. Item has 2 pages. Item is in good condition. The Times Union, 1969.

Purpose Overgloves are a protective layer worn over spacesuit gloves to protect the spacesuit glove from being torn and frayed.

Description Canvas 38" X 60" painting on canvas of top view of shuttle in orbit and astronaut in full suit exploring. Signed by Harry Bernard. Painting was completed in 1988. Canvas was removed from broken frame. Permission was given by Springfield. Item is in very good condition.

Description Army green gabardine cargo pant, size 38 X 30, Eddie Bauer. Pant legs zip off. Pants have side knee pockets, 2 back flap pockets and 2 front side pockets. pants have a button and zipper closure in the front. Plastic bag with one sticker included. Item is in very good condition.

Purpose Crew members aboard a space shuttle select their clothing far in advance before they launch and go to space. They are given a limited supply of clothes which are worn once and after a period of 3-10 days, depending on the garment and activity, disposed of in a bag. The pants seen here would have been worn depending on the liking of the crew member and whether his job suited this article of clothing.

Purpose Most spacesuits have many patches sewn in representing different missions and countries. NASA attaches an American flag patch to most suits like the one seen here. EMU stands for Extravehicular Mobility Unit and is the type of suit this patch was made for and represents. Information regarding this patch was sparse. The following links have very small bits of information on this patch.

Description 5.25" X 4.25" fabric and plastic, multi-colored patch. Wording on the front of patch, "SPACE SHUTTLE PROGRAM, 1981-2010." Back of patch has numbers, "163486, 6/10 30." Included with patch is an 8.5" X 11" black and white explanation sheet in a plastic sheet protector. Patch and other included items are in pristine condition.

Purpose As referenced on the included sheet, "The Space Shuttle Program was intended to complete in 2010. Due to needed flights to complete the International Space Station, the Program was extended into 2011 to accommodate two additional flights. The patch you are receiving was obviously developed in 2010 before the decision to extend into 2011. See the final Space Shuttle Program patch with the correct dates to the left." (on the included sheet)
